These frames were handmade, painted, and decorated by me. Many of my inspirations came from a tile or a piece of folk art that I could incorporate into the frame. Sometimes I just went with a theme that sparked a creative idea. Inspirations were always waiting in bead stores, flea markets, tile stores, and in the market areas of all the cities in Latin America, Asia, and Europe that I loved visiting!
From my artist resume: "Using 1x1 pine sticks, she developed a technique for building a sturdy mirror frame. In many of her works, the art is the frame itself. The mirror frames create a multi-media composition reflecting design elements from other cultures as well as whimsical themes".
Over the years, I had constructed 53 of these frames by the time I decided to make them by commission only. They all sold except for the two that I kept, the two that I gave to girl friends when I first started making them, and the one that disappeared with the gallery that went belly up in Moss Landing CA.
I made many, many more that I called the gift collection...frames that I decorated, but didn't construct. I also decorated crosses for awhile. Hmmmm, maybe I'll add another gallery to this site!
